“IT’S VERY DIFFICULT TO TAKE THE VEIL IN CATALONIA”

Saida Harrak, a Catalonian Muslim girl, define herself as feminist, defend the liberty and press that to take veil in Catalonia is very difficult because the level of inflexibility is very high.

- Is the veil a symbol of submission?
- No. The veil is only a question of faith

- But, you don’t take it. Are you considering yourself a bad Muslim girl?
- I don’t take it because I don’t feel myself qualified, but not for this reason I’m a bad Muslim. I always pray the five prayer, I do the Ramadan, I give alms, I don’t tell lies, I don’t steal and I don’t try to hurt anybody. If I take the veil now a lot of people will think that I’ve suffered deterioration. There are people who think that you aren’t integrated in the society if you take it.

- But, have you taken it anytime?
- I took it one time because my ear was operated and I can’t take cold. I realised that people were changing around me. A woman who was sitting in front of me changed the place in a train. I got into a bar to take something and all the people who were inside stopped talking. I was as an Alien. It was very hard for me.

- What do you think about the Catalonian people see the women with veil?
- A lot of people think that the women who take the veil are submissive and they can’t decide anything by themselves. But, Muslim women are as intelligent as decide a lot of things. Moreover, there are a lot of women and men who don’t take the veil and they are submissive.

- But, what are the different reasons to wear it?
- Most people wear it because they have faith. Others because it’s a trendy or it’s identify cause for themselves. They take the veil with jeans or with high-heeled shoes, as Catalonian women. They have created a mix culture. Other women wear it for obligation. It’s a pity!

- It’s an unpleasant argument in Muslim families?
- No. The principal unpleasant arguments in Muslim families are the kind of clothes that you dress. For example if you dress a miniskirt or neckline.

- What do you think about the Muslim women live in Catalonia with the inflexibility about the veil?
- We feel trapped with the people who oblige us to wear it and the people who oblige us to don’t wear it. But we are who must decide it because it’s our liberty. In Catalonia, we have the option to be free. I have decided to don’t wear it. My mother wears the veil because she feels nude if she doesn’t wear it. Nowadays my sister has decided wear it although her husband who is Muslim doesn’t want. You decide it

- Which are your problems in Catalonia?
- Of course isn’t the Veil. The problems for us are the illiteracy, the unemployment, the integration difficulties and the ignorance of the language.
We constantly have to excuse for all the things that the rest of Muslim people do. I’m Muslim person and I have to pay for my acts but I mustn’t pay for the things that do for example Bid Laden.

- The Integration means that Immigrants are living with us?
I have lived here since I was three years old, I feel Catalonian person but I think the Immigrant people must have civics rules. The integration is pay luxury tax, work, be a good neighbour and citizen. But I don’t think that Integration will be a question for wearing veil or not

WEEKEND
Saturday morning I woke up very early and I thought “I need go out”. The week was terrible for me and I need to go out from Barcelona city. I found an offer by internet and I checked a bedroom in a Hotel in Empuria Brava .
We arrived to Cadaques at 13.00 and we walked around the village. I was there when I was younger but I wasn’t remembering it. It’s wonderful!!

We had dinner in Roses, a village between Cadaques and Empuria Brava. This village is very touristy and I liked it but I prefer a small village as Cadaques.
Around seven o’clock we went to the hotel to have a shower and change our clothes. The Hotel was very beautiful with sauna and Jacuzzi that you mustn’t pay more to use them. But, we hadn’t got a bathing suit. How annoying!!
Our bedroom had a balcony where you can see a canal with a lot of ships moored in other side. The view was wonderful.
We went to have dinner in an Italian restaurant near the hotel.
The next day we visited Empuria Brava and some of the canals there were. It looks like Venecia!
Then we wanted to visit the Greece ruins in Empuries, another village, but in front of the ruins there was a cove and we preferred to see it.I recommended the short Tripp to try to switch off from work.

OLD MOTHERS

Most of us have heard something about the woman of 67 years old who has been a pair of twins. She was treatment of an American doctor who is angry because this woman laid him about the age. The doctor said that if he had kwon she was 67, he wouldn’t has treatment her. In an interview that I read, the doctor said that she falsified some documents to look 55 years old. In my opinion, it’s very strange. I think that the doctor didn’t request any document.

Is necessary to limit the age for having children? According to some new studies, the women that have children before 50, they can be mothers physically and mentally as younger women. The Scientifics of the California University say that old women haven’t so stress or healthy high-risk than younger women. For this reason, the new researches declare that anybody can deny beeing mother after 50.

But, who worry about children? In this case, for example, when these children will be 10 or 15 years old, they won’t have mother and possibly they will go to orphanage.

Finding by internet something about the “perfectionist”, subject that we were talking last class, I’ve found an interesting article about a new illness that its name is “Ortorexia”, the obsession to eat healthy food. While the problem of the anorexia and bulimia is about the quantity that you eat, the problem of Ortorexia is about the quality of the food. It’s an obsession to eat only biological healthy food. The people who are victims of this illness suffer a hard worry about the healthy food every time; it’s the one objective in their life. These kinds of people try to get different physical, psychical and moral benefits, which it makes them hooked on it, as a drug addict.
These people only eat food that it comes from ecological agriculture but vegetables without pesticide or artificial substance. Most of them give up eat basically groups of foods (for example meat, greases, fish) falling in a dietetic disorder or malnutrition because they don’t replace these kinds of proteins for others.
Generally this illness appears among excessive perfectionist people, people who are obsessive in rules. It appears among people who have suffered anorexia too.

There are famous people who are different habits in theirs nutrition, a correct habit if it will not became in obsession. For example, the designer Jean Paul Gaultier admits that he drinks 68 orange juices every day. Julia Roberts explain that she drinks some litres of Soya milk every day. Wynona Ride only drinks organic Coca cola and Mel Gibson doesn’t eat chicken because he thinks that it increase the breasts.

Although there aren’t a lot of studies about it, there are some diagnoses about it:
- To spend more than three hours a day thinking in a healthy food
- To feel bad every time that you don’t keep the diet
- To worry more for the quality of the foods than to enjoy eating them
- Excessive planning that you have to eat next day
- Social isolation
- To prefer don’t eat anything than eat something prohibited
Nowadays, in Spain, there aren’t a lot of cases about it, but the specialists ensure that the number of people will increase in a few time.

It’s incredible!
The 31th night the taxi drivers will collect five euros more than the other nights as well as they did it last 24 th night.
According to them, they collect two euros because is weekend and three euros because is a special day. But, I ask that is special the service or not. Will they give us a glass of champagne inside the taxi or they will sing us a Christmas song? Will they see us to our bed and wrap up us? I don’t understand anything. “They stole it from us”!
On one hand, the society try to convince the population to get a public transport and we mustn’t drive car if we drink. And, on the other hand, in a special day as next Sunday, when most of the people go out and drink a lot and it’ll be very difficult to find a taxi , you have to pay more.
All the people wouldn’t get any taxi this night but finally people will pay anything to go out without car and drink without problems.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2007!

ARTICLE OF A BLOG
I have read an article in one blog that I think is very interesting. It talks about the violence among adolescents. An Italian teenager filmed his friends beating up a boy with Down’s syndrome.
Recently most of us have seen on TV several cases same as it. For example, in Barcelona three boys burned and killed a woman beggar for their entertainment. It’s lamentable!!
It is a very dangerous fashion; the teenager converts it in a competition among them showing the recordings with pride and valuing which of them is the most aggressive.
The organisation of Minor Defence says that most of these boys are of media-high social classes and they don’t know like stopping it.
I suppose that it’s very difficult but I think that if the laws were stricter, possibly, a lot of things wouldn’t happen. The laws consider the minor as minor but if a boy makes an act violent as he is to kill, the society will have to judge him like an adult.
On the other hand, I watched a program on TV where it was said that last year there were five thousand reports of children using violence against their parents. Parents are losing authority over their children. It’s a pity!!

PUBLIC HEALTH AND PRIVATE HEALTH

In the last class we have talked about the differences between public health and private health and I had to defend private health when I don’t agree with it.
First fall, I think that public health is the best because it has got the best equipment and the best doctors although they work in privates hospitals too.
On the other hand in the public health you must to wait a lot when you go for visiting and is difficult that you have a personality attention. I think they are things without importance because if you have a big problem or you have to do special tests you must to go to public health.
In the private health you have an individual room, personal attention and you don’t have to wait for visiting. Other advantage is that you’re pregnant you can do you more ultrasound that the normally and you have better attention for the doctors. But if you have a problem during your pregnant or your baby was born with a problem the private health send you to public health very quickly.
My mother had a problem in one of her breast four years ago and her gynaecologist of the private clinical said her that it wasn’t anything. The reason that my mother is still alive was that she went to public health all the time she considered. Finally, my mother had a hard cancer in one of her breast and the doctor had to remove it. If my mother wouldn’t’ had gone to the public health, nowadays she couldn’t be alive.
We are very grateful with public health because all the tests, that my mother did, were very quick and the doctors care her a lot.
Although there are a lot of things to change about public health, in my opinion and for my experiences I prefer it.
